The cardo maximus and the decumanus maximus perhaps take up the orientation of a Hippodamian plan set at the time of the Seleucid foundation, but nothing is known of the Hellenistic city. Shops lining these streets were also cleared. Most of the city of Antioch is still underground awaiting future archaeological excavations.
