Antioch was located on a hill and was protected by a fortified enclosure that surrounded the city with an area of 47 ha. This fortification is not homogeneous and there are many re-uses: blocks belonging to various buildings, from different periods, make it difficult to date it, which can go back, depending on the section, to the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods.
